Relationships are like shoes

Dear U, I hope this letter Finds U well...

Relationships are like shoes. Did you know that?

When you buy cheap shoes, two things can happen.

Sometimes we really love the shoes, they are beautiful and comfortable, and “all we ever wanted”, until they are not anymore. Sometimes it takes one day of long walk for the shoe to start looking bad. And then we are heartbroken because we really liked it. But lasting wasn’t in its making.

The opposite can also happen — the shoes looked great, but we soon realize they are not that comfortable, or that we can’t match them with anything. But then we unfortunately insist on our savings-mode, and refuse to just throw it away. We feel like it loses its cheap-shoe-purpose if we throw it away while still looking wereable. So we continue wearing it despite it not bringing joy and damaging our feet. And, of course, this one insists on not looking bad fast.

Now don’t get me wrong — I am not saying you can’t buy cheap shoes. At one point in my life, I only bought very cheap ones. My thinking was — if I buy cheap enough, I can allow myself to have new shoes each season. So I looked at them for what they were — cheap, not lasting, not something to get attached to.

What is this in comparison to buying good quality shoes? Buying good shoes that could last for the next years is not an easy task, especially if you have sensitive feet. You need to take the time to go to stores, try many, find the one.

But aren’t your feet — and you — worth the time, investment, and the wait to find the right one?

Yours,
